About Amazon Earthworks
What is this site about?

Amazon Earthworks - a production pottery, an artist's pottery, since 1965.

All glazes are mixed in our studio, ensuring they contain no lead and no cadmium.

The history of porcelain - in the T'ang dynasty period in China. The addition of kaolin led to a kind of translucency unknown before. Marco Polo is said to have brought porcelain objects to the west in the 13th century leading to a search which lasted almost 400 years before the discovery of kaolin deposits in Saxony in what is now France.

How it's fired?
Most pottery is fired at least twice. (Click here for a look inside a kiln during firing process.)
The first firing is called a BISQUE firing which renders the pots less fragile and easier to apply glaze.
The second firing is a GLAZE firing, during this firing, glaze minerals that have been applied to the surface of the pottery fuse into glass.
